Welcome to our Agile Learning Center

Customize to your school!

We are an Agile Learning Community that activates explosive learning by harnessing powerful tools for self-organization and intentional culture creation, allowing our students to deeply engage with the world through their passions and strengths. Our learning environment embraces choice & freedom along with collaboration between peers, teachers, and the local community.

The structure of our school allows for students, teachers, and parents to have a voice and take an active role in building the community they want.

What is an Agile Learning Center?

Agile Learning Centers restore the joy of learning with a surprisingly effective educational approach: intentional culture supporting self-directed learning reinforced by agile management tools.

We are part of a growing network of schools that leverage Agile tools to support self-directed education.

Culture Creation

Our ALC model is emergent and adaptive. We iterate and evolve our tools and practices so that the process is always serving the people. The ALC model holds these four assumptions, the Agile Roots, at its core — they drive all that we do.

The Agile Roots

alc_mosaic-gardenerThe soil we grow from is trust: in students, in each other, in you. The four assumptions that ground us are as follows:

  1. Learning: Learning is natural. It’s happening all the time.
  2. Self-Direction: People learn best when they make their own decisions. Children are people.
  3. Experience: People learn more from their culture and environment than from the material they are taught. The medium is the message.
  4. Success: Accomplishment is achieved through cycles of intention, creation, reflection, and sharing.

Cycles of Learning

What do you want to accomplish today?

In an Agile Learning Community, we discern and articulate what we want to do, individually and as a group.

What are you going to do about it?

Agile Learners spend their days exploring and inventing – once we know what we want, we create it.

What did you learn from your choices?

Looking back, we develop awareness of what worked and what didn’t, so we can move forward more powerfully.

How can you share it with the world?

We document our work to record, exhibit, and share our experience with others.

How to Engage

About Me

Hi! To see my featured blog posts (AKA the ones that I’m proud of and want to share) scroll up! To view some more of my blog posts, look to the left under “recent posts”. If you want one from way back (although, I don’t know why you would) you can scroll down look under “archives”. Click a certain month and view all posts posted during that time.

Hi. My name is Alona Mayim (insert last name here). I am 14 years old. My birthday is March 1st, 2003, and I was born at 2:15 in the morning. If you want to see more pictures of me and my family then CLICK!

I became a student at ALC Mosaic (click for website) (Then, The Mosaic School LLC) in February of 2014. I have done so many things with school! This includes White Water Rafting, Washington D.C. x3 (click!), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. I’ve also made tons of friends.

I love school so much I can’t even describe it. My favorite thing about school is probably that we are all a huge family. We’re all pretty much siblings by now. We’re around each other so much that sometimes we annoy each other just like brothers and sisters.

The biggest struggle at school is that there aren’t many teenagers. I’m actually the only teenage girl in the whole school. The other two teens are Gabe @gabe and Michael @michaelgadhia. They’re 13 and 14 respectably.

This post is labeled About Me. So you might want to know some more random things that can help you imagine what I’m like.

  7. I didn’t realize I had curly hair until February 2016! Until then I always brushed it and it became a frizzy mess. See my post about my hair HERE!
  8. When my sister Elisha and I tried to teach Balto (our dog) how to shake, he already knew! We don’t know where he learned it.
  9. Balto was abandoned as a puppy.
